BIOGRAPHY

 

Born in Pusan (South Korea) in 1973, Min Ji has attended the singing classes of the Music School in her hometown. Later she has moved to Italy to continue her studies at "Santa Cecilia" Music Conservatory in Rome, where she has brilliantly graduated in 1999, obtaining her BA and MA degrees in Canto.

Min Ji has won the first prize in numerous competitions including the Competition of the University of Pusan, the singing competition Kosin, the International Singing Competition “Giuseppe di Stefano” (Trapani, 2000) and also the first prize and the critics prize at Ottavio Ziino International Competition in 2010.

She has debuted in the role of Serpina (Servant Mistress of Pergolesi) and has recently interpreted Lucinde in Claudine von Villa Bella by Schubert.

Min Ji has collaborated with major international musical institutions including: New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Rome Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra “Alessandro Scarlatti” of Naples, National Academy of Santa Cecilia, participating as soloist at the opening of the exhibition "Colors of music" held in December 2000 at Palazzo Barberini in Rome.

Always attentive to the rediscovery of the Italian repertoire of the Seventeenth and Eighteenth century, she is very active as soloist collaborating with ensembles specialized in Early music.

Being very appreciated by Maestro Ennio Morricone, Min Ji has performed under his direction at the Hungarian Academy of Rome, interpreting his composition Abenddämmerung, and also at the opening gala of the Turin Olympics in 2006.

Extremely versatile as artist, Min Ji lent her voice to the soundtrack of the film "The Girl from Nagasaki" of the director Michel Comte, appearing also as an actor in some scenes of the film, which was in the race for the International Film Festival in Cannes in 2013. In the same year, the songwriter Amedeo Minghi invited her to perform in his sacred music show "I giganti della fede". Min Ji also collaborates frequently with the famous jazz pianist Danilo Rea.
